Exams are coming and you're getting ready to hit the books and study. Before you get stuck into your notes, think about the space that you'll be reading them in. Setting up a dedicated study area can help you to avoid procrastination and distraction, and to stay inspired to do your best !
Here are a few tips:
Separate home from study
Ideally your study space should be separated from your living space. If you can, find a room with a door that you can close so that you can keep the space nice and quite. If you don't have an office or study space, set up an area in your bedroom so you can close that door and block off the noise of others in the distractions, but also to relax when you're done studying, as the rest of the house will be a 'study-free zone' that you can enjoy.
Get organised
One way to avoid procrastinating is to make sure you have all the items you need for study in the one place so there's no excuse to get up and move around. Arrange your study tools and stationery so that they're ready for you to use. Use highlighters, coloured pencils and sticky notes to your advantage by creating a colour coding system. Separate your study materials into different sections and use colours to label them. Maybe you'd like to organise your notes by subject, or by exam type - find a system that works for you. If you like to snack while you study, make sure you have your treats with you when you enter your study space, too. Eliminate the pattern of telling yourself you'll start a piece of study 'right after you make a snack' by making them ahead of time. Or allow yourself a treat after you're completed a certain amount of study, so you have a goal to reach !
Furniture
Comfort and good posture are very important to a successful study routine. If you're not comfortable you'll tend to keep moving around and changing positions to find a comfy spot. Make sure you have the right furniture - an adequate;y sized desk and an appropriate seat so that you don't find yourself hunching or slouching. you'll be able to focus a lot harder on that perfect exam answer if you don't have a sore neck or a cramped leg !
Decorate
Make your study space inspiring - put up an inspiration board so you can remind yourself of the goal your study is leading to. Use colours to your advantage as they can influence your mood! Choose a colour that makes you feel energised, calm or focused, and get yourself some decorations in that shade ! If you're not really into decorating, you could sneak some colour in with a water bottle, or a notepad or a coffee mug in your shade of choice. When decorating, add a whiteboard or pin up board so that you can jot down important reminders!
